Energique's Lutein + Antioxidants™ is a new dietary supplement, formulated to support optimal eye health, as you get older.
Researchers with the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) reported in 2001 that a nutritional supplement called the AREDS formulation may reduce the risk of developing advanced age-related macular degeneration. The original AREDS formulation contained vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, zinc and copper. Our formula does not contain copper, but includes selenium, an important antioxidant mineral.
In the updated trial, from 2013, lutein and zeaxanthin were added. Lutein, a carotenoid found in dark green leafy vegetables, is a dominant pigment in the macular region of the eye. Our formula
contains additional antioxidants to help protect vision. A diet low in antioxidants is associated with the development of cataracts, as well as macular degeneration.
